A Handful of Sunshine at the Stall
The mandarin stall looked like a small piece of sunshine under the market roof. Fruit was stacked in bright orange towers, the handwritten price sign leaned into the middle, and a handoff was happening right in front of me. This mandarin market photography is really about that exchange: one hand offering, another reaching, and a whole table of color between them.
I was walking around the market with a camera during my school years when this carefully arranged stall stopped me. The seller had made the display feel almost theatrical, so I took the photograph before the moment moved on.
The image is from 2014 or 2015. The sign says mandarins were 2.5 lira then, which now feels like a small time capsule. I do not need to guess what the price would be today. The light, the gesture, and the orange rhythm already tell the story.
That is what I like about mandarin market photography. A good market frame can hold a transaction, a season, and a whole afternoon in one bright breath. 🍊
