A Small Window, a Very Good Sunbeam
Pamuk found a narrow patch of sunlight and turned it into a private stage. One blue eye catches the light, while the rest of her white fur fades into the dark. This blue-eyed cat portrait is less about showing everything than letting one small detail do the talking.
From the window, almost all we could see was the building opposite. Then a little piece of sky opened up and the sun came visiting. Pamuk was already there, taking her bath, so I grabbed the camera before the light moved on.
I shot five photographs that day. This one stayed with me because the bright eye and black background make the frame feel larger than the room. The camera settings did much of the work too: a fast shutter speed let the background fall away into darkness, leaving the cat and her gaze behind.
That is the charm of a blue-eyed cat portrait. Sometimes a small patch of sun is enough to give the whole day a face. 🥰
