Cat Peeking Between Trees on the Princes’ Islands
I wrote something, deleted it, wrote again, and deleted that too. Why? Because I decided to remove the first cat photograph I had chosen and share a different frame instead. Was the other cat not cute? Of course the cat was cute. The problem was not the cat. I simply had not photographed that moment as well as I wanted.
This cat peeking between trees gave me a much better reason to begin again. Only part of the cat is visible in the narrow space between two large trunks, but those alert eyes immediately hold the frame. I think the little hunter was watching or chasing something on the ground. What it was, however, remains part of the mystery.
A Natural Frame Between the Trunks
The blurred tree trunks form a strong foreground and lead the eye directly toward the cat. Although the animal occupies only a small part of the photograph, its face becomes the clear point of attention. The shallow depth of field separates that watchful expression from everything around it and gives the scene the feeling of a secret observation.
I photographed the cat peeking between trees with my Nikon D90 and a 105 mm focal length at f/5.6, ISO 100, and 1/125 second. The longer focal length helped compress the narrow opening and soften the trunks without losing the cat’s eyes.
I believe I made this photograph on the Princes’ Islands, most likely on Heybeliada. It has been far too long since my last proper island walk. I should return, complete another full tour, and see how many cats are willing to pose for me this time.
Pamuk Ends the Writing Session
I would happily continue, but my own cat Pamuk has been bothering me without a break. Apparently, writing about another cat while she is nearby is unacceptable. I cannot work under these conditions, my friend. 🥰
If you prefer cats who are resting instead of conducting secret missions between trees, you may also enjoy this sleeping tabby cat photograph.
Stay healthy, wealthy, and surrounded by love.
