A Hagia Sophia Interior Photo with Centuries in One Frame
I took this Hagia Sophia interior photo during my student years, sometime between 2013 and 2015. I had pressed the button on a museum card and walked in with the excited confidence of someone who had no money but a plan. 😂 The warm light, dark stone and enormous calligraphic medallion made the interior feel larger than the room could explain.
A Photograph Found in the Archive
The photograph had been sitting quietly in my archive. When I decided to look through older images, I found five or ten frames that had never been shared. This was one of them. It felt too good to leave on a dusty shelf, even if the image had to wait years for its turn.
A place like Hagia Sophia does not need a complicated caption. This Hagia Sophia interior photo only needs its arches, windows, light and layered surfaces to tell several stories at once. The camera keeps one angle of that feeling.
Which detail makes you feel the age of a historic building most strongly: its walls, its light or the time you spend inside it?
