A Single Red Tulip Photo About Waiting
This single red tulip photo was taken in Emirgan Grove in March 2016, right in the middle of Istanbul's tulip season. One deep burgundy-red bloom rises above a field of green leaves and unopened buds. It looks alone, but not abandoned. It may simply be the first one to arrive.
Not Alone, Just Early
The buds around it are not empty space. They are a promise waiting for the right amount of sun. Give them a little time and the quiet frame will change: the lone flower will have company, and the green will be interrupted by a whole crowd of color.
Maybe people are like that too. Feeling alone is often a season, not a permanent address. Sometimes you are not being left behind. You are simply standing in the frame a little earlier than everyone else.
Of course, this was also the stage of photographing everything. We went to photograph tulips and came back with about a hundred million pictures. This one, that one, wait, that one too! Later the eye settles down. You stop trying to keep the whole garden and start listening to the one flower that has something to say. That is probably why this single red tulip photo stayed with me.
Have you ever mistaken a temporary quiet season for loneliness, only to realize that the rest of the garden was still on its way? 😁
