A Child Chasing a Red Tram Through the City
This child chasing a tram photo was made on Istiklal Avenue in Istanbul on December 23, 2014. We were there for a school assignment, walking through Beyoğlu with the class. A red tram moved ahead, and the child ran after it along the tracks as if the whole street had become a game.
The Race We Keep Joining
A friend and I took this frame at the same time. His version was probably a little better, but I refused to admit it. 😁 Some photographs are partly about what they show and partly about the small competition that stays attached to them.
I wish the only thing we chased at that age had been a red tram for the fun of it. Instead, life keeps turning into a race. Run, hurry, keep up. Every now and then, it needs a long pause. This child chasing a tram photo still reminds me that a street can hold both the joy of running and the wish to stop.
What would you gladly stop chasing if life gave you a quiet afternoon?
