The Sky Was Doing the Painting
These seagulls at sunset look less like an ordinary pair and more like two actors arriving on the same line. The front bird catches the warmest light, while the second rises behind it like a quiet partner in the scene. The sky is blue, but the evening has painted the wings gold, and for a moment the whole frame feels less like a photograph than a small piece of theatre.
The Front Bird Stole the Light
Another day on the way back from the islands, I think Büyükada, though I would not swear to it. The sun was going down and doing such beautiful things to the sky and everything in it that pressing the shutter was the only sensible job left. That is why I still love these seagulls at sunset, even though digital zoom softened the details and my 12-megapixel camera was not exactly a miracle worker 😏 The image is not perfectly sharp, but the light gave the moment more life than technical perfection ever could. Some evenings do not need to be explained. They only need to arrive, colour the sky, and leave a pair of wings behind.
