Those Were the Days in the Fading Evening Light
Those were the days. On a photo walk through a village square, I found this old man sitting beneath a large plane tree. The sun was beginning to leave him, and the evening was slowly taking the light away. His eyes were turned toward the ground.
Of course, I may have buried the poor man alive with my words. Maybe he was only thinking about something very simple. We are the ones who tend to turn quiet moments into complicated stories.
Still, there is something in this old man portrait that makes me pause. The warm light on his face, the dark cap, the heavy coat and the calm way he sits all feel like a small piece of a world that moves at its own speed.
Life can be simple. Do not hurt people, do not let every little thing hurt you, and try to live with peace, health and happiness. That is what Those Were the Days means to me in this photograph, even if he may only have been waiting for tea. 🥰
