A Fluffy Cat Portrait with a Serious Look
This fluffy cat portrait was taken in Heybeliada on May 2, 2019. I had gone there to record a video for my channel and brought the still camera along as well. One hand held an action camera, the other held the camera for photographs, so walking around like that was not exactly elegant.
A Cat Who Knew the Camera Was There
Then I met this cat. The soft gray-brown fur, pale eyes and steady expression made it look completely prepared for the session. I did not have to ask for much. The cat offered pose after pose, and this was one of the frames that stayed with me.
A fluffy cat portrait works when the animal’s character arrives before any explanation. Here, the warm muted light outlines the fur while the empty space beside the face gives the gaze somewhere to go. It feels less like a street snapshot and more like a brief appointment with a very composed model.
In an animal portrait, what catches you first: the eyes, the texture of the fur or the feeling that the animal is deliberately posing?
