A Market Vendor Spraying Water in a Cloud of Droplets
I made this market vendor spraying water photo for a school assignment on June 3, 2014. The frame caught a vendor refreshing the greens while a cloud of droplets crossed his face and jacket. Crates, lettuce and long green onions fill the stall, but the suspended water is what turns an ordinary market task into a photograph.
The First Award Still Feels New
Around the same time, I entered a photo contest organized by İGDAŞ and this image was considered worthy of exhibition. It became my first recognized photograph. I still remember checking the results on my phone during class, seeing my own name and becoming too excited to explain the situation to the teacher. 🤣
A market vendor spraying water is doing something practical, not performing for the camera. That is why the frame stayed with me. The gesture, the droplets and the crowded color of the stall all arrived at once, before either of us had time to make the moment more polished.
