The Story Behind a Dog Smiling with Teeth
At first glance, this dog smiling with teeth looks like the happiest possible interruption to an ordinary patch of grass. Keş is lying there with his teeth, nose and eyelashes filling the frame, as if he has discovered the funniest possible way to greet a camera. The grin is enormous, and the dog behind it is even more memorable.
This was during my Bodrum Yalıkavak years. Keş hung around the yard of my workplace at a shopping center. He was not exactly gentle. He disliked workers in slippers and charged at the footwear, possibly giving a few people a very light kiss. 😁
With me, he was always gentle. We played on the grass whenever I had time. After complaints grew, they moved him farther away. Three to five months later I returned to Istanbul and never saw him again. I hope he found a happy place.
A dog smiling with teeth can make an old memory bright, but it also brings the harder part: no stray dog or cat should have to search for food in heat or cold. If I had a huge plot, I would build a warm shelter, not the kind that appears in bad news. Clean water, full bowls, and a safe home for every one of them. 🥰
