The Quiet of a Fisherman by Calm Water
Some photographs arrive with a story already waiting. Others make you stand there for a while before they tell you what they are about. This was one of those. I found it later while looking through the archive and gave it a place here.
The fisherman is pressed into the left edge of the frame, almost lost beside his net. In the rest, there is water, a pale sky and the kind of quiet that makes even a small movement feel important. A fisherman by calm water does not need to become the whole picture. The stillness is doing part of the work.
Maybe I could have moved him a little further from the edge. But the photograph is honest about where my eye went first: toward the emptiness, then slowly back to the person inside it.
Perhaps that is why its original title stayed with me. Fewer people, more peace. A fisherman by calm water, and enough room for the world to breathe.
