A Misty Lake Landscape with a Secret

This misty lake landscape was one of my favourite photographs from our Yedigoller trip. The water is quiet, the branches seem to be reaching into it, and the soft haze gives the whole frame a private, almost dreamlike mood. It looks like the kind of morning nature would carefully design for a photographer.
Nature Takes the Credit, Barbecue Takes the Blame
Then comes the confession: that beautiful mist was not mist at all. It was barbecue smoke. 😅 Somehow, the trees and the lake accepted the smoke, arranged themselves behind it and helped create a much more mysterious scene than anyone at the picnic had planned.
I still love the photograph, even though the framing is not exactly a lesson in perfect composition. The sharper branches hold one side of the image, the blurred leaves drift across the other, and the water keeps the middle quiet. It feels less like a postcard and more like a memory that refuses to stand still.
Maybe photographs do not always need the conditions we think they need. Sometimes a little smoke, an imperfect frame and a moment nobody planned can make this misty lake landscape feel more personal. The atmosphere may have come from a barbecue, but the feeling belongs to the lake, the trees and that day.
This photograph was taken on November 4, 2012. I still like it. 🥰
Have you ever mistaken something ordinary for a little bit of magic?
