A Shadow Beside Falling Water, Holding Still
At Duden Waterfall, the water keeps moving behind her while she stays almost entirely still. Her face turns into a dark profile beneath the cap, leaving only the edge of a nose, lips and chin to meet the light.
I worked on this photograph after taking it, but I did not want to make it feel louder than the moment itself. The softened water and deep shadow let the frame hold onto something quiet: a person standing close to movement without needing to compete with it.
A shadow beside falling water can be enough. It does not need a perfect pose or a perfect explanation. Sometimes the feeling arrives through the smallest outline, and the rest is left to the sound and spray beyond the frame.
Sometimes when I think I’ve talked / written too much, I sing this song to myself: “Tamam tamam sustum” (Okay okay, I’m quiet now)
