An Istanbul fashion week model stands almost completely still in this frame. Her black dress becomes part of the darkness, while the light finds the line of her face, shoulder and arm. Behind her, the room falls away into shadow.
In 2014 or 2015, I went to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul with the fashion design department at school. I was among the audience, watching the runway and taking a few photographs from where I could.
The photographers and video crews had a place directly facing the runway, but it needed permission beforehand. I was not in that space. So I chose the view I had and pressed the shutter from the side of the room. 😅
That distance is what I remember in this Istanbul fashion week model photograph. She looks composed and unreachable for a moment, while the audience stays almost invisible around her. The photograph keeps the quiet space between the stage and us.
